here is robbie’s latest supercharged nsu, of which he says is one of a trilogy of nsu customs. he has done two so far.
and now this one:
the first one was “sort of vintage racer type” robbie says, and this machine is “more radical.”
i argue that his first was more rad and this is more polished. clean is good and his new nsu is definitely that.
he fastened a mercedes eaton m45 supercharger driven by a 3-inch wide belt to the nsu powerplant and has the supercharger down tuned to be 15% “under driven” because he didn’t want to blow the engine up. the boost is about 5psi.
that’ll give you a jolt.
the frame is made out of heavy gauge steel tube, as is robbie’s signature when building monstercycles.
he builds everything himself. the fuel tank is made out of stainless steel, as is the seat and really, everything else.
the supercharger has manifolds he made in stainless and the wheels are old honda fireblades. the forks are inverted kawasaki zxr750 and the top yoke, or as robbie tells it, “triple trees for you yanks,” were made out of stainless tube and stainless solid round bar that he bored out on his lathe.
more custom one-off stuff made by mr. robinson include the steering stem and the foot controls. the carburetor is a weber 45 twin choke side draught. he made the air scoop out of more stainless.
jeez, man. can you use some raw plumbing tube some time? and cost. cast iron, motherf*****r!
all the polishing was done by robbie’s hand and it makes “a right f***ing mess when i do it!” the bars and grips were also fabricated by him with a planished finish as was the seat.
the gearbox is bsa a7/a10 with the rear upper lug removed and the clutch is a norton amc. didn’t they make harley’s and bowling ***** once?
he used an aftermarket bearing block with a shaft made in “mild steel” with a duplex chain running to the crank and on the other end a single row chain running to the clutch. i will post a video of it running after he has ironed out “a few small teething troubles.”

as a cool and mad brit, robbie is also working to fit a charging system to the beast, which, since he is making a total of three, i have decided to liken his series to the crucifiction of christ. the first one was jesus:

when i posed that idea to robbie, he wrote, “yeah, cool.” i’m sure he was humoring me. as a born-again, i’m pretty blasphemous. forgive me, ***. you gave my my sense of humor. i know, i probably shouldn’t use it as often as i do.
the exhaust is 2-inch stainless running into a large cone he rolled out of flat stainless plate. when i asked about the exhaust of his new nsu chopper, which seems to blow 1000 cc’s of combustible engine heat into the rider’s face. robbie said that it “looks like it should burn me or gas me out but it doesn’t, although it is a bit loud.” indeed. he baffled the exhaust, which i agree with, not to make things quiet, but because when done right, proper baffles add power. he made the inside of the pipe out of a brass fitting yoinked from a plastic moulding machine which he “borrowed” from work.
why does a guy with this much talent have to have a day job? one one of these days, i’m gonna buy that first nsu, man. hope that funds you for a year, where you’ll make a few bikes to keep on going. stick it to the corporate man!
he also informed me that superchargers tend to quieten the exhaust noise and to look forward to that video which will corroborate his assertion.
right now he is building a v12 5.3 liter jaguar bike for next year. you can see the bike in progress below. he says he won’t be not that front fork set up and “just put it there for a laugh.” he promised to keep me posted with his builds over the coming months.
he’s working to make a few alterations to the current nsu bike, mainly the bars and fitting an alternator properly so he can ride it without having to go to yoga classes. he intends to ride it to a show in holland in november.
