can we agree that god created the universe?
or was it an accident?

can we agree that science speaks of the moment everything began?
if so
why are are we fighting
created from the same moment
whether it took a second or a week we are all formed from the same thing
and only our beliefs separate us

i speak as an american
born in a country that was not founded on religious principles
regardless of what some would have us believe
some fought and died that all would be free to worship as they please
our constitution names this as the most important thing
with the first words
of the bill of rights
we "shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion."

yet we argue that we are a christian nation
in ignorance by foolish speakers seeking your vote
as you point weapons at those who disagree with your religion
when we all pray to the same god

we are jewish, chiristian, muslim and more
we have faith, history and amazing accomplishments in mathematics
theology
and art

science speaks a truth we all understand
energy never dies
it changes form and we are all from the same seed

does a limb of a tree reach out to cut off another limb
or does every leaf nourish to make it grow?

what god created will live forever
should we hurt each other or embrace our brothers
our sisters
and know we are the same

jesus was a prophet
abraham was blessed
mohammad was given a vision

who we believe and how we pray is indestructible within our hearts and minds

why should one nation oppose another for their view of god?

a land grab?
an oil find?
minerals and poppy seeds?
corprotate war machines?

they paid for your election, didn't they?

i stand here and say i don't think this is what god would have us be and do

hate

if that is god's will i renounce god

do you hate and renounce creation?

i sat in a van by a lake drinking malt liquor a mile away from a coal plant when this came to me and still remember
we came from the same moment
the stardust
the bang the formation
the winds will kill many or make us remember
when we were children
and the wind blew our hair
and we laughed and ran and trusted
our home would be there when we returned
the sun would rise
the moon would shine
and god loves us all

please embrace your brothers
please forgive past sins
please stop the fear and threats
please remember
we are all created from one ineffable thing
we cannot define
no matter how hard we try
and proclaim we are right


one moment
one creation
you and you and you are the result

will you kill a child of god

or will you embrace each other?
