whatever you have loved
will be loved, too
whatever you have hated
will hate you
whatever you distrust
will be distrusted in return
as your dog loves
and a woman gives

whatever you have spoken
will be repeated in the burning sun
whatever you have coveted
will be owned by another one
whatever your dreams
be they peace or revenge
they will come back to comfort or torment
and hold your thoughts

should your steps be straight
don't expect perfection
should your deeds be gentle
don't expect understanding
should your words be poetry to the ears of the gods
expect nothing but the lesson
that everything in life is loss
